At NHS Digital, we are proud of what we do and the way that we do it. We are a centre of excellence for the innovative use of technology and data in health and care and we are harnessing the information revolution to make the NHS paperless and digitally integrated by 2020.

We are leading on the delivery of this transformation through a wide range of ground-breaking and technologically challenging initiatives that are all aimed at helping health and care professionals improve the way they work and enhancing citizens’ experience of the system.

It is a hugely exciting mission and we are recruiting into a number of key roles to help us deliver it. Come and play your part in one of the most exciting challenges in the technology sector today: the digital transformation of health and care.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a number of experienced Programme Managers to join the organisation to lead on the delivery of key programmes, working within the NHS Digital professional pools.

About us

With headquarters in Leeds city-centre and a number of satellite offices across England, NHS Digital deploys Programme, Project Management and Business Analysis professionals to deliver and support to a wide range of national IT and business change projects and programmes.

About the role

This is a ‘hands on’ role and the Programme Manager will be required to plan, design and lead tasks and projects within the context of the overall NHS Digital Portfolio Management governance framework. You will proactively manage for successful delivery and help to deliver major components of national health and social care reforms.

You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of projects including those with strategic implications for the organisation or with a national focus. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate, or be capable of developing; excellent leadership and problem solving skills, negotiation and facilitation skills and be able to support one or more Senior Responsible Owners in achieving successful delivery of the new service capability.

The role of Programme Manager will operate as part of a professional resource pool and will be allocated to one or more programmes or projects across the NHS Digital Portfolio.

These assignments will be focused on a number of areas including:

  • patient facing services

  • primary care

  • secondary care

  • pharmacy

  • social care

About you

You will be expected to have a successful track record of working in a complex environment, with the ability to work autonomously. You will be responsible for pulling together disparate work areas with multiple stakeholders and will develop significant experience of working on complex programmes and projects.

You will be required to manage projects in accordance with NHS Digital and Cabinet Office standards and you will be expected to demonstrate leadership and management behaviors commensurate with being a senior member of the organisation.

About the rewards

In addition to a competitive salary you can look forward to an excellent contributory pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement and various flexible working options. Perhaps the most compelling reasons for joining us, however, are the scale, scope and high profile nature of the projects you’ll be working on, and the unprecedented opportunity for personal and professional development.
