About the role
In this new role at NHS Digital, you will shape our developing Research Operations function. You will play a central role in our user-centred design (UCD) community; helping our (circa) 40 user researchers to do their best work. This position represents an opportunity for an experienced user researcher to develop into a research ops expert and leader. You will work centrally alongside senior figures - such as the Head of User Research - and the wider UCD community to deliver our research ops vision.
You will be playing a critical role in accelerating the embedding of ethical, scalable, efficient and impactful user research practice across the organisation. The effects of which will be vast and varied; you will be helping to put the user at the centre of a multitude of health care products and services which affect the lives of millions of UK citizens.
You will lead the delivery of research operations for NHS Digital. You will oversee: the delivery and running of the user research lab in the new Leeds hub, standardisation and co-ordination of research tools, user research knowledge management and communication, researcher onboarding, ethics, consent and other key aspects of research operations.
As an experienced user researcher yourself, you’ll understand what user researchers need in order to deliver user research effectively, and you’ll be great at organising what needs to be done to get research done.
You do not need to be a research ops expert but you do need to have an interest in the area and experience that enables you to understand the potential of research ops to support a community of user researchers.
These are some of the key skills and experience that you will bring to the role:
- in-depth knowledge of how user research operates.
- proven ability to oversee and deliver research.
- extensive experience in being a user researcher and working collaboratively with user researchers.
- ability to influence and develop collaborative relationships with a variety of colleagues.
- the ability to use research skills to understand the needs of user researchers and the ability to drive the delivery of the things that will meet them.

If you will be based in London, you will also receive a London weighting allowance which is 20% of your salary subject to a minimum payment of £4,440 and a maximum payment of £6,777.
