About the role
We have two exciting Assistant data manager roles available within our Data Management Services team. The health and care system has one of the richest data stores across any industry and have already invested heavily in the infrastructure required to process, access and surface that data. What we now require are individuals that can harness the power of that data and convert it into insights and information that can make a real difference to the lives of people every day.
The Assistant Data Manager will play a key role in the management of data across the full lifecycle of data management, from asset or process development, maintenance, service management, right through to delivery of our data products.
Working alongside colleagues from other departments, such as Data Scientists and Statisticians, and occasionally leading a team, the Assistant Data Manager will help to ensure that data are handled in an efficient and secure way.
Working with the UKs best scientific and statistical capabilities, and across a wide range of data assets, this is an opportunity to improve the health and care for the population of England. This role would be working in our Data Management Services team where we continue to support dozens of major coronavirus studies including Oxford University’s RECOVERY trial, which provided one of the first big breakthroughs on the treatment of COVID-19.
As an Assistant Data Manager, you will be responsible for:
Gathering requirements from colleagues.
Determining the most appropriate database architecture for a particular process.
Mapping out end-to-end processes.
Writing code to develop automated processes and peer reviewing code developed by direct reports.
Handling, manipulating, merging and transforming very large data in a variety of formats in highly efficient and automated ways
Testing, and reviewing test plans created by colleagues across the organisation
Management of reference datasets.
You will operate to standard service and project management techniques and help NHS Digital fulfil its regulatory requirements in such areas as data quality and data security.
We want to make sure that you are set for success, these are the skills and experience you will have:
Experience in using data management tools such as SSIS, R, Python, SAS DI Studio, Databricks, or other advanced industry standard tools.
Data management and optimisation expertise, covering: process design; code development (using languages such as R, Python, SQL or SAS); data architecture; testing and assurance; and reference/ master data management.
Experience in successful delivery of data management services in a large and complex organisation.
Experience in the collection, analysis, interpretation and prioritisation of customer requirements.
Experience in communicating complex and technical concepts and issues to non-technical colleagues, customers and stakeholders at all levels.
Able to develop and maintain effective and credible relationships with customers, other business areas and data experts.
