The role

We are currently seeking to recruit a forward thinking, dynamic and committed specialist Speech & Language Therapist to join our Multidisciplinary Therapy Team in Gloucester. We are looking for someone who will share our values of Teamwork, Honesty and Enterprise Developing Excellence Across Neurological-care.

The post holder will:

  • Be responsible for delivering a high standard of therapy input to individuals with complex neurological needs within a slow stream rehab setting. They must be confident treating residents individually and in groups.
  • Take clinical responsibility for the assessment, treatment and management of speech and language needs for patients with complex, traumatic, acquired or progressive and inherited neurological disorders. This includes palliative care as required.
  • Maintain resident documentation, records and accurate statistical information to reflect care provided and meet professional standards
  • Contribute to the writing of clinical reports associated with relevant clinical reviews and case conferences ensuring effective communication and coordination of patient care
  • Be an effective and active member within the multi-disciplinary working environment.
  • Be confident in the assessment, set up and implementation of AAC and Environmental Control Unit systems.
  • Have experience of communication needs and dysphagia and with those individuals who have tracheostomy and ventilators.
  • Provide training for communication and swallowing awareness to all staff within the centre.
  • Provide specialist therapy services for individuals with a variety of complex conditions including MND, MS, PDOC and rehabilitation.
  • Provide clinical supervision and direction to therapy assistants, acting as a mentor to junior colleagues and students.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Diploma SLT/Pathology
  • HCPC registered
  • Relevant post graduate experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal), with residents, visitors, and the wider multi-disciplinary team
  • Commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and protection of vulnerable adults                                      

 Desirable

  • Degree level education
  • RCSLT Accredited
  • Experience of completing mental capacity assessments
  • Working with patients with a tracheotomy
  • Working with ventilated patients
  • Post graduate dysphagia experience
